Empowering Women in Business Network: My First Meeting

Working with women is the best.

No, I am not trying to call out men and make them feel bad.

Barring a few uncomfortable apples (including one who went 𝘰𝘯 and 𝘰𝘯 about his giant backyard pool during a heatwave 🥵), I am INCREDIBLY lucky as I look back at my career and think about all the encouraging and inspirational men I've worked with.

But this isn't about the men I've worked with

Yesterday, I attended my first Women in Business Network meeting. 🙌

Canterbury Women in Business Network meeting

As with all networking events, I went in hopeful but nervous. Putting yourself out there is hard, and as a woman under 30, I worried I would be looked down upon for my age.

Still, I was friendly and polite, and I tried to make conversation with as many people as I could.

I even got a little name tag with "Copywriter" underneath. Imposter syndrome, activated.

Did I waffle on too long? Yes.

Did I forget the name of someone I met 5 minutes ago and sheepishly ask for them to tell me again? Yes.

Did I bump my head into a low-hanging lamp? Also yes.

Despite all those setbacks, I was in a room with over a dozen women who - despite where they came from and what they looked like - had gone out on their own and started their own businesses. How cool is that?

Artists, marketers, accountants, real estate agents, life coaches. I am not embarrassed to say, it was a little intimidating. 👀

Even though some women's businesses had similar clientele, there wasn't a single feeling of competition in that room.

Everyone shared their successes, struggles, and hopes for the future without fear or embarrassment.

THIS is why I built Copy by Corinna: to work with women-led businesses that aren't afraid to ask for help. 🥳

Starting a business is f***ing hard.

Surrounding yourself with people who have been in your shoes and want to help you succeed?

With a group like the Women In Business Network (WIBN)? Maybe this whole thing doesn't have to be so scary.
