5 Tips to Boost Your Website Creativity

I hate when I am given too many choices.

HEAR ME OUT!

I just finished finalising my copywriting website (thanks for checking it out) and I couldn’t be happier - or more relieved.

But why did it take me over a month finish when I can usually knock out a fabulous website for a client in a few weeks?

Those pesky, wonderful, infuriating…choices. 🤬

When given a blank canvas, our minds race to find the perfect thing to go in each empty space.

Feeling overwhelmed with choices.

But when you have all the colours, effects, sparkles, bells and whistles to fill that space? I don’t know about you, but my mind overloads. I am that meme of the woman with math problems floating around her head.

I think it’s as close to spontaneously combusting as I ever get 🤯.

So why do we struggle when given so many choices?

For me, it’s like going into a restaurant and being given a menu that is over four pages long and in size 12 font. Maybe their cheeseburger is the best in the world, but when you also offer a tikka masala and a side of dumplings, I start to question how on earth you could possibly nail all types of cuisine.

It’s not that I don’t like having choices!

Green or purple, no, maybe? Extra cheese please 🍕.

But having unlimited options is WAY too overwhelming.

When a client comes to me and says, “Make me a website!” my brain takes off.

So many possibilities. Based on their business, I know what designs would work best for them and what might throw people off.

Helping them design their logo, choose their colours, their font, their voice…that is what makes a blank canvas so much easier to fill. Even having an idea of what you don’t want is a great place to start.

Still stuck? I get it. I have been there.

Here are 5 Tips to Boost Your Website Creativity 🖥️:

  1. Bookmark some killer websites that you love. We can talk about why you love them and what about their brand keeps you interested. 🧠

  2. Bookmark some websites you hate. This can be even more helpful! Maybe it’s the overall vibe or the yellow they use that reminds you of the doctors office. 😒

  3. Go play with color palettes! There are so many websites that help with this.🎨

  1. Fonts! Download the craziest, weirdest, and most boring fonts you can find. You might be surprised at what goes together.⌨️

5. Put together a mood board. Pinterest is great for this, but taking a walk and snapping some pics can also be super helpful. 📷
